Us
The mission of The Ivy House is to promote change by providing programs to enhance the quality-of-life issues that exist among the poor. The goal of The Ivy House is to serve the economically disadvantaged in the area of education, health, family and civic responsibility.
Mission
On a lovely fall day with mother nature expressing her splendor of colors through her trees, these three people met at Guaranty Title Company in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
At 3:00 pm on October 22, 2007, the Ivy Foundation represented by Barbara Wesley, President, and Shirley Johnson, Treasurer purchased the "Lewis Professional Building" represented by Dr. Billie Lewis, owner, for the purpose of developing it into the "Ivy House" for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
History
In October 2007, the facility, located at 1910 Robert T. Longway, formerly known as The Lewis Professional Building, was purchased. Dr. Billie Lewis was the moving force behind the acquisition. His wife, our departed sister, Dr. Vivian Lewis’s record of professionalism and service to our community and sorority is being memorialized in the work and activities we implement through The Ivy House. Our address was changed to 1908 Robert T. Longway, was changed to reflect the founding year of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
The 501c3 was granted on November 14, 2003. Because of our facility we have been able to respond to the Flint Water Crisis by being one of the distribution sites for water, food, and other necessities. Our services included Duffle Bag drive for children entering into foster care.

These activities, among others help to continue our mission of implementing programs to enhance the quality-of-life issues that exist among the economically disadvantaged in the areas of education, health, family and civic responsibility.
